Frédéric Portal has built extensive experience in the patent field, including litigations, partnership agreements, technology transfer and patent prosecution strategies. He offers in-depth expertise in contentious and non-contentious patent matters, particularly disputes regarding patent infringement or validity before French courts and the Unified Patent Court. In addition, he is actively involved in opposition proceedings and patent prosecution before the European Patent Office and the French Patent Office (INPI).

With his dual expertise in science and patent law, Frédéric Portal has gained strong experience in building the right innovation strategy, encompassing patent prosecution and litigation, protection of trade secrets, as well as drafting and negotiating partnership agreements. He specializes particularly in the fields of chemistry, life sciences, medical devices, energy, polymer materials, composites, alloys, and industrial processes.

Lectures & Seminars

Frédéric Portal regularly organizes, speaks at, and participates in seminars of the Licensing Executive Society as he has been a Board member since 2014 and is currently President on duty of LES France, which covers strategic and case law reviews. He is also active as Chairman of the Life Sciences Committee of LES France.

Frédéric Portal also enjoys teaching patent law and IP law on employees’ inventions in the IP Law Master II (LLM) at the University Panthéon-Assas - Paris II and on various other occasions.
