Patent Valuation

There are various situations in which corporate patent portfolios need to be valued. This is the case, for example, with mergers and acquisitions of companies or parts of companies, the choice of suitable financing models for companies or for fiscal and corporate reasons. In these cases, it is necessary to assess the absolute value of a patent portfolio as precisely as possible. Patents are also frequently valued to determine the relative value of patent portfolios in connection with the analysis of existing patent filing strategies for example.

In this regard, there are a number of methods and concepts for evaluating patents, utility models and innovative technologies. In addition to the qualitative, strategically oriented evaluation of patents and patent portfolios, it is often necessary in practice to determine the monetary value of patents. BARDEHLE PAGENBERG’s attorneys have practical experience in these matters and regularly hold seminars on the subject.
