Dieter Schneider has many years’ experience as a patent examiner and group leader at the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) as well as experience as Head of Department Patents in the fields of chemistry, physics and electronics.
His technical fields particularly included chemical engineering, inorganic and organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, food chemistry, biotechnology, genetic engineering and pharmaceuticals. In his position as group leader at the German Patent and Trademark Office, he was responsible for matters relating to patent law (including Supplementary Protection Certificates) and initiated the Patentrechtsnovelle in 2013. He also dealt with matters of European patent law and international cooperation, such as the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH), the Utilization Implementation Project (UIP) and particularly quality management.
With his diverse technical experience and his extensive knowledge of patent law, Dieter Schneider provides impetus and offers professional support in his capacity as a consultant in the firm.
In addition to training patent examiners, Dieter Schneider has undertaken a variety of studies on patent law and has given many lectures, with topics ranging from chemical compound protection, secondary medical use, and implementation of the EU Biotech Directive into German patent law through to the patenting of embryonic stem cells. He was also involved in the cooperation between patent offices and in matters of patent quality and quality management of the patent offices.
