Attorneys at Law

The practice of Henning Hartwig comprises prosecution and litigation of IP rights in the fields of trademark, design, copyright and unfair competition law.
A main focus of his professional activities is national and international industrial design law, in particular multinational design infringement proceedings as well as invalidity proceedings before the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market in Alicante and the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. As editor of the four-volume casebook Design Protection in Europe, the only one of its kind, Henning Hartwig has unique and Europe-wide access to unpublished decisions of Community and national design infringement courts. Clients in this field include manufacturers of the computer industry, electronic games, fitness equipment and the clothing industry. Henning Hartwig acted in one of the first infringement proceedings in Germany concerning an unregistered Community design and coordinated a number of multi-jurisdictional infringement proceedings in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria and the Netherlands.
Further professional activities cover European and national trademark law, unfair competition law and the worldwide fight against product piracy. Here he represents clients in the sectors of consumer healthcare, direct response television marketing and the food industry. In a headline-grabbing Supreme Court case, Henning Hartwig was successful in defending a global chocolate manufacturer against asserted claims for injunctive relief and damages due to alleged 3D trademark infringement and unfair competition.
He is also active in copyright protection, having represented one of the leading European furniture manufacturers.
