Heinz Bardehle, co-founder of the BARDEHLE PAGENBERG firm, can look back on sixty years of relentless activity in the field of patents. Heinz Bardehle began his career with Siemens in Berlin, becoming head of the telecommunication division of the patent department. In 1967, he moved to private practice and later co-founded BARDEHLE PAGENBERG, the first partnership of patent attorneys and attorneys at law in Germany.
Heinz Bardehle represents industrial corporations from Germany, the US and Asia in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering and handles their cases at the German and European Patent Office, at the German Federal Patent Court and the German Supreme Court.
His foremost achievements lie in his still continuing efforts to advance the international harmonization of patent laws. At the international level, within the framework of WIPO, one of Heinz Bardehle's main goals is the reintroduction of the novelty grace period for patents. Another long-term pursuit is the introduction of the first-to-file principle in the patent system of the United States. In 2001 Heinz Bardehle was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz (Great Order of Merit of the German Federal Republic) by the Minister of Justice. He received this highest German civil decoration for his achievements in patent law, in particular for his initiatives in promoting European harmonization.
Heinz Bardehle is Honorary President of FICPI and chairs the AIPPI's working group for the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), where his objective is to adapt the PCT regulations to the needs of the applicants.
Every year Heinz Bardehle organizes the 'Bardehle Seminar' at the firm's offices in Munich. This well established event is an informal discussion on particular important patent topics among high ranking patent officials, IP lawyers and industry representatives. He regularly publishes articles on patent harmonization and other WIPO matters (see publications).
