Primary Practice

Rudolf Teschemacher joined BARDEHLE PAGENBERG after retiring from the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office in October 2005. He is an expert in all questions of procedural and substantive law in proceedings before the EPO.

Rudolf Teschemacher played an important role in developing EPO practice from its early years on. As Director Patent Law he was responsible for advising examiners, EPO top management and users of the European patent system in how to apply European patent law. In his years as a permanent member of the Enlarged Board of Appeal he drafted landmark decisions such as Novartis on the patentability of plants or PPG and Genetic Systems on the admissibility of disclaimers. Although the activities of Rudolf Teschemacher in the Technical Boards of Appeal were mainly related to chemistry, he worked also in other technical fields, in particular mechanical engineering.

In addition to his professional activities, he made many contributions to the development of European patent law in literature. Prominent publications include his co-authorship of the commentaries on the EPC Singer/Stauder and Münchner Gemeinschaftskommentar.

As Consultant with BARDEHLE PAGENBERG, Rudolf Teschemacher will employ his exceptional judicial and technical experience to the benefit of the firm's clients.
