Prosecution and litigation of IP rights in the fields of trademark, design, copyright and unfair competition law.
A main focus of Henning Hartwig’s professional activity is on European and German design law, in particular multi-national design infringement proceedings as well as invalidity proceedings before the OHIM in Alicante. As the editor of the case book “Design Protection in Europe” published on a yearly basis, Henning Hartwig has unique access to Europe-wide unpublished decisions on design infringement. Clients in this field are manufacturers of portable multifunctional communication devices and sports cars.
Further professional activities concern the recently re-codified German unfair competition law, in particular disputes in commercial advertising. In the fight against counterfeit products, Henning Hartwig represents a global player of the cosmetics industry. A further major area of his practice is trademark work, where Henning Hartwig counsels an important international client of the consumer healthcare sector and a well known Swiss food company.
Copyright protection in the industrial context is a current challenge with Henning Hartwig having represented one of the leading European manufacturers of furniture. In addition, he handled one of the first infringement cases in Germany regarding the enforcement of the new Community design.
Henning Hartwig has documented his outstanding expertise with this new legal tool in more than 50 articles and in a Europe-wide data base for Community design-related court decisions. He has also widely published in the other fields mentioned above and is a frequent speaker on the topics of his practice (see publications).
Henning Hartwig is a member of the Designs Team of MARQUES (Association of European trademark owners) and UNION (UNION of European Practitioners in Intellectual Property).
